I got one copy of a mockup of my book printed by Lulu. They resized my pages (in spite of explicitly telling them not to) but otherwise, this cheap fast test print makes me feel really good about the book. So at least I feel better knowing that, when I do find a better printer/quote, it’ll look pretty good.
I’m talking to multiple people about quotes right now. One quote sounds within my range but would take like 7-10 weeks to get filled (OUUCCHHHHH, there go a few more conventions……..) and others would be faster but I haven’t gotten quotes yet.
So yeah. I’ll post Kickstarter update soon. All this has me on edge, but at least the book looks good ( when Lulu doesn’t resize the interior >:T )
I have a question about your ajitama in your ramen, how long do you boil them, and how long do you marinade them to get them what you might call "perfect"? I've seen varying recipes and instructions (some saying to marinade for 3 days, others one, and boiling seems to vary a lot too :)) How many do you make at one time as well? Thanks :3
I’ve started making batches of 6, which is a few more than I can eat before they go bad, but I also always lose one or two of them when removing the shells or one is obviously over/undercooked or the yoke is exposed.
What I do right now is buy those brown eggs, usually cage free or organic, because those shells seem to break really cleanly and make the de-shelling way easier. I boil my eggs for about 7 minutes — I start the timer as soon as I lower the first egg into the boiling water, and as soon as it goes off I dump the eggs into the sink under running water, and then put them in an ice bath for 10-20 minutes.
Then I remove the shells, and plop them in the marinade for 3 days. HOWEVER, I actually eat them at all stages of curing/marinading. Because I’m a greedy guts and really like eating eggs. So if you let them cure for one day, they’re really tasty! But curing for 3 days makes the yolk more gelatinous, which is a really yummy texture.
Just always make sure, especially if curing for several days, to wash the eggs after taking them out of the marinade THOROUGHLY, cuz the outsides can taste a little too salty and strong otherwise and the eggs should be sweet.
