Super tired but reached that point where I have to be in the car for a few hours and it’s better to do something productive than sleep and drive while groggy… so I’m working on page editing. Having to spruce up the color pages, because god damn, they look bad in grayscale. What are values! How do they work! Clearly I didn’t know.
I was gonna crazy-shade this but I like the flats so much I was like “forget about it”
I think my inks look better with flats and textures anyway. Shading tends to choke them. If that makes any sense.
Now back to real work.
ssh, shhh… no
seriously you guys
(my comic updated)
Workin’ on this page. Here are some inks to atone for the lateness…
… also because I am pleeeaasseeeddd.
I badly wanted this page done before I went to work, but it will be up tonight before I go to bed!
I made a lot of mistakes on this page so far I’m gonna have to fix >:T MAD.
Love Me Nice’s story is mostly planned out. There’s a lot of room for me to make up stuff as I go and writing opportunities, but it’s going in a specific direction toward a decisive ending. It’s just a matter of mapping how I get there, I have chapters like… towards the end completely planned out, but a lot of in-between chapters have lots of room for changes and new ideas. I have events that have to happen along the way, some in a specific order following a timeline, some that can happen anywhere if it works. Some are actually time sensitive and I gotta be aware of how time and months are progressing. But I also rewrite stuff all the time.
I hope to be working on other projects before Love Me Nice even ends, as Love Me Nice is gonna… it’s gonna be long. It’s going to be , like, another 10-12 chapters *before* the time-skip, and the time-skip marks the half-way point. So, uh, yeah. If I wait til LMN ends to start other projects, well, I don’t think I’ll be doing much else!
I do have plans for stuff I wanna do alongside it or after it, just need the time :P
Well I’m not sad she doesn’t have a bigger role, I’m happy with the story as it is being written now and I don’t have the desire to write anything for Praline, especially as dense as things are gonna end up getting. I’m just kinda sad that people might be disappointed, but that’s how it goes. There’s room for her to make an appearance or be useful if i need her, but I’m not desperate for writing opportunities with her.
Quick early-mornin’ 5 minute color practice before I get back to comic pages
… I hate it
but I’m getting closer to what I was aiming for
I figured as much. I like to think that she keeps busy having her own awesome adventures. :) Following very closely behind her is Kelly (who I am assuming plays a more major role?)
The 4 main protagonists are Mac, Claire, Carolina and Kelly, so yes.
Oh god, I never noticed that about her name before! I mean, uh, I did it on purpose. I am clever. o_o;;
And that both makes me happy and sad! I’m so glad the comic reads well, but I am super bummed because my ideal update rate for this comic would be 3 pages a week, sorta back-to-back for that very reason. The beginning of this year was not kind to me and I’ve been recovering and trying to work back up to my goals since.
But things are looking up and I’m hoping to get back to where I was headed in February.
As far as the comic’s timeline goes they have just started dating, and they’re taking their sweet time of it. It isn’t a secret spoiler or anything, like knowing that doesn’t change anything at all, which is why I got no qualms drawing it.
It’s just a fact and a subject that hasn’t come up in conversation yet (though in the chapter after next, it’s the subject of a big loud fight). It’s the details surrounding their being together and staying together and past relationships that are spoiler-y-y.
Was gonna scan this properly when I could color it but MMEEEHHH I think it’s cute so
have badly edited phone pic of Fran and Kelly being cuddly.
I was avoiding drawing these two for awhile because of their proportions but I THINK I’m finally good enough to pull it off and make it cute as opposed to super super awkward.
Claire and Kelly are kinda tied for my favorite to draw. But honestly, I designed my characters in a way that makes me enjoy drawing all of them. That was my main goal, after them looking the part, making sure this was a character I’d enjoy drawing a million times.
As for favorite character story… I’m gonna say Roger because his is, like, the most influential on everyone else’s story. I think if it weren’t for his story, everyone else’s stories would be drastically different — he’s singularly the one piece that if removed, nothing would work anymore.
I am excited to introduce Bongo and Melissa. They are fun to write. Because they’re assholes.
I have other plans, for sure. Whether they occur after LMN or alongside it remains to be seen. LMN, if it goes as planned, it’s gonna take me a few years to get to the end. So it’s all up in the air!
