Page 139 of Love Me Nice! Because I’m a dork I’ve locked myself out of my website for an hour after finishing this page, but since I’m finally done with it, here it is an hour early for tumblr/twitter.
First Love Me Nice page that’s 100% digital, drawn in Sai using a Cintiq, hand lettered, using my new computer, at my new desk setup, in my new room.
Lotta firsts. I hope this page is good enough for the visual shift not to be so jarring that it’s upsetting. I’m kinda pleased.
… the version of photoshop I have now really doesn’t like to do tones the same way so I’ve abandoned them. I hope this looks good if not BETTER? I personally liked the texture but I’ll find ways to work it in.

Of the already established or mentioned characters, one is gay, 3 are lesbian, 1 is bi/pan. And there are 2 not introduced yet who are bi/pan.
It just hasn’t been obvious or relevant yet for a lot of them, though it’ll be pretty obvious for one couple by the end of this chapter.
For reasons, I can’t use Photoshop until I fix some problems with my desktop, or replace the power supply in the one my mom offered me to keep if I could fix it. So in the meanwhile, I’m trying to learn PaintTool Sai since until the computer gets fixed I still have a lot of things I need to draw for comics and stuff for the kickstarter rewards.
So I practiced and got used to the tools by doodling Mac Jr. and Kelly as normal humans for fun.
Sai is interesting, I like it, it’s just taking some getting used to. I can see using it plus Photoshop in the future, cuz there are definitely things I miss about Photoshop, but Sai does other things way better.
After a hiatus, Love Me Nice just updated with page 138! Thanks to recent good fortune there will be regular updates again. Wowie!
I did a bunch of marker doodles on newsprint yesterday while watching TV. I doodled Bongo and Melissa. I’ve gotten really attached to the idea of Bongo wearing over-sized jackets and I didn’t draw them as big/long here as I’d had in my head. I’ll remember that next time.

I forgot how much I loved sketching with just a marker and brush pens, so I did some of that at lunch. Love Me Nice sketches, latter two relevant to current chapter since I tweaked how it concludes slightly (rearranged events, really).
Sketches I did in the bath last night of a Love Me Nice character. I rewrote some later stories and he’s gonna end up being introduced sooner and have a slightly different role so I thought doodling him was a good idea.
In profile he kinda looks like Oven’s Kurt. I’ve been thinking over how he looks for way too long. I think I wanna make him more pug-dog like. Maybe even with ears like that, I dunno. It’d be fun since this is Claire’s grandad and Betty Boop was originally a dog, so it’d be neat to reference that a tiny bit.
I like sketching with markers. I should do it more often.

Firstly: Aaah, thank you!
Secondly: In this universe, there are no sentient “objects” like cars or the like. That’s a product of special effects for shows and stuff, though it’s a common misconception sheltered non-Toons have about Toons, which many of the latter find annoying and even offensive.

Since toons and humans are made up of the same stuff, not really. The closest thing to any offensive toon-only tactic is using toon-logic to manipulate someone into doing something they shouldn’t or is dangerous.

“Tooniness” does have paranormal properties. The way it works in the comic’s universe is, as I said before, toons are a kind of humans. And humans are technically toons, too. And there’s this innate “tooniness” in every single person that is a either dormant (as is the case for almost all humanoid people), involuntary (and subject to the Law of Funny consequently) or voluntary (in someone like Bongo’s case).
I’ve kind of always imagined in this world that toons, in their abilities and diversity of appearance, were originally the majority and humanoid appearance becoming the default is the result of homogeny and the watering-down of a lot of traits through the years, originally just natrually and in more recent history selectively. Because people find comfort in homogeneity and that’s probably what led to the humanoid appearance (and lack of paranormal toon qualities) being so favorable…
… ANYWAY. Like I said, it’s meant to be a sort of paranormal energy, very much a mind-over-matter thing (which is why Law of Funny is so strong and easy to invoke, laughter is pretty strong. etc), and that mind-over-matter property can extend to matter outside of the body, and if enough energy is put into an object, it keeps it.
So, in short, if a certain toon was making a bag with the very willful intention of it becoming a “hammerspace” bag… that’s what the result will be.

Minor cosmetic surgeries are as common as they tend to be for humans. Major stuff, if the result is to look more humanoid, is pretty rare or likely to be rather private.
