At the end of the day, Toons are Humans, and Humans are Toons in this universe.

This makes me think of an interesting facet that could exist in LMN… you probably don’t want to touch this with a ten-foot pole, BUT if human racism exists in the same way in LMN as it does in the real world, and toons exist as rough parallels to real cartoon tropes, than surely there are some Toons who resemble racist caricatures such as the Dumbo crows or those Fantasia mushrooms, or even just an exaggerated “mammy” cartoon, etc etc. It might be interesting to see a character who, through no fault of their own, has that appearance and just wanst to have a normal life, and doesn’t know how they fit in to that whole history…. Man! There’s so many cool/interesting things you could do with a world like that….
That would be interesting, but you’re right I wouldn’t touch it with a ten foot pole. I’m sure there are people who could write a way better story about toons than me, and they can have at it. I’m not a good enough writer, and I’m sure I’m not utilizing my setting/world to it’s full advantage, but maybe other people will do better with this sort of world.
At the end of the day, Toons are Humans, and Humans are Toons in this universe.
It’s like how there are animated shows with realistically proportioned characters who don’t act “toony” — those are the humans of this world. They’re still ALL “toons” there is just a spectrum and “humanoid” is the default/most common. “Human” is homogenized and have a lot of the more “toony” traits bred out, and unfortunately people as a whole gravitate to conformity and homogeneity so “humanoid” is considered the norm and it hasn’t been that long since Toons were being regarded like a completely different creature in spite of being the exact same
And to answer a question I get a lot too while I’m at it: Yes, there is still racism among humanoid people based on race, skin color and culture that has followed an identical timeline to the real world. Toons have no replaced that nor are they stand-ins for that. They simply have their own separate history/timeline that’s progressed at a different pace and exists for reasons unique to a wacky fantasy race with super-normal qualities — subbing for a specific race instead a type of people who have superhuman and almost paranormal abilities and animal qualities would have unfortunate implications for what I’d be saying for that race, so I’m not doing that.
You can’t represent an entire group of actual humans who are marginalized and discriminated against in the real world with a stand-in supernormal animal people versus “normal” humans because… you will have just compared that group of people to an animal and a “less than human” status. And that’s really unfortunate. Make everyone animal people, or just don’t attempt these unfortunate metaphors/allegories that compare a race/culture/gender identity/sex/etc to being animals relative to humans. It ain’t a good scene.
I’ve seen it done before and it made me wince and cringe over the really unfortunate implications and I made a decision then and there to leave the human races intact and just have Toons be their own thing with their unique fantasy problems that could only ever apply to them and no other group of real people. I do a lot of things wrong and clumsily but I hope to stick to my guns with this one.
I’ve been saying I’m gonna write a FAQ for this stuff for the 3 years my comics been online but just haven’t.
Of the already established or mentioned characters, one is gay, 3 are lesbian, 1 is bi/pan. And there are 2 not introduced yet who are bi/pan.
It just hasn’t been obvious or relevant yet for a lot of them, though it’ll be pretty obvious for one couple by the end of this chapter.
Firstly: Aaah, thank you!
Secondly: In this universe, there are no sentient “objects” like cars or the like. That’s a product of special effects for shows and stuff, though it’s a common misconception sheltered non-Toons have about Toons, which many of the latter find annoying and even offensive.
Yep! I’ve got girls of varying body types, though the most notable would probably be the girl from #10:

Though I suppose she’s still not exactly got tiny boobs, but they ain’t huge.
… and also I have gay dude porn which is as flat as you get :U

Hey, Bongo will talk your ears off on this subject if you can get a gag order appealed. That’s been a thorn in his side for the last few years.

Chablis’s mom is more than happy to indulge her love of cute accessories, she wagers if this is her teenager daughter’s only real vice, she’s got it pretty lucky.
Don’t take George not liking you personally. She takes everything personally.
Since toons and humans are made up of the same stuff, not really. The closest thing to any offensive toon-only tactic is using toon-logic to manipulate someone into doing something they shouldn’t or is dangerous.
“Tooniness” does have paranormal properties. The way it works in the comic’s universe is, as I said before, toons are a kind of humans. And humans are technically toons, too. And there’s this innate “tooniness” in every single person that is a either dormant (as is the case for almost all humanoid people), involuntary (and subject to the Law of Funny consequently) or voluntary (in someone like Bongo’s case).
I’ve kind of always imagined in this world that toons, in their abilities and diversity of appearance, were originally the majority and humanoid appearance becoming the default is the result of homogeny and the watering-down of a lot of traits through the years, originally just natrually and in more recent history selectively. Because people find comfort in homogeneity and that’s probably what led to the humanoid appearance (and lack of paranormal toon qualities) being so favorable…
… ANYWAY. Like I said, it’s meant to be a sort of paranormal energy, very much a mind-over-matter thing (which is why Law of Funny is so strong and easy to invoke, laughter is pretty strong. etc), and that mind-over-matter property can extend to matter outside of the body, and if enough energy is put into an object, it keeps it.
So, in short, if a certain toon was making a bag with the very willful intention of it becoming a “hammerspace” bag… that’s what the result will be.
fearsomebutfearful said: do they do that often?
Minor cosmetic surgeries are as common as they tend to be for humans. Major stuff, if the result is to look more humanoid, is pretty rare or likely to be rather private.
